Insane in the Explain!

Too many people use the word "mansplaining" and "whitesplaining" to deter disagreement when they are unable to effectively use logic, reasons and evidence against disagreement.

Dictionary.com defines "Mansplaining"

(of a man) to comment on or explain something to a woman in a condescending, overconfident, and often inaccurate or oversimplified manner.

UrbanDictionary.com defines "Whitesplaining"

The paternalistic lecture given by Whites toward a person of color defining what should and shouldn't be considered racist, while obliviously exhibiting their own racism.

People don't like to be questioned about their experiences by someone who hasn't lived such experiences. That's understandable. I'm sometimes defensive when people who haven't worked in a school talk about stopping student misbehavior when they haven't dealt with that real life pressure of doing so with all  the rules and regulations school staff have to follow. But still, people have a right to question what school staff members are doing!

Being a part of a historically oppressed group doesn't exempt you from experiencing assertive disagreement.

Being a part of a historically oppressed group doesn't exempt you from having your logic and reasons questioned by others.

Being a part of a historically oppressed group doesn't exempt you from being told that you're wrong when you are wrong!

Being a part of a historically oppressed group doesn't exempt you from being told your side of the story isn't the whole story!

Being a part of a historically oppressed group doesn't exempt you from facing aggressive pushback when you say "I don't trust white people" or "I don't trust men".
If you want to be respected, you have to respect others!

=============

On facebook, one Asian-American woman who moved to Hawaii from the continental US, has verbally pushed back against a European-American complaining about anti-white discrimination in Hawaii.

The Asian-American accused that European-American of "not understanding the hardship of minorities" JUST BECAUSE SHE MENTIONED she faced taunts and threats for being European-American.

Nevermind that same European-American woman had plenty of facebook posts expressing solidarity with non-whites suffering from discrimination locally and globally.

But the Asian-American implied that the European-American was "whitesplaining" just for defending her right to be upset about anti-white racism.

I noticed the verbal bullying that the Asian-American woman was committing and I jumped in to defend the European-American woman!

The irony is that that same  Asian-American woman who did NOT grow up in Hawaii was trying to "mainland'splain" Hawaii's social fabric to me. Excuse me, I grew up here, YOU DIDN'T!

So who 'splaining now?

This was after that same woman was preaching to a European-American woman (who also came from the continental US) about how she didn't understand "white privilege" is affecting Hawaii!

I told that Asian-American who accuses people of "whitesplaining" that the European-American woman she was arguing with had more knowledge of Hawaii's social environment!

That Asian-American woman main experience in Hawaii is at UH (mingling with people whose academic credentials allowed them to go there), taking classes from politically correct professors, and hanging out in hippie/vegan circles (which ironically have more "white people" than any of my social circles).

Whereas the European-American woman actually worked in a public school located in a mostly Native Hawaiian community. She worked in a school system whose staff is DOMINATED by Asian descendants, especially the Japanese!

(in other words, the European-American woman had more experience dealing with Hawaii's general public than the Asian-American woman who only hang out in UH  &hippie/vegan bubbles)

This Asian-American woman who came from a mostly white state, preaching about white privilege talked about how "whites control the land" in Hawaii, whereas the European-American noted correctly that major landowners included Kamehameha Schools (which operates an elite private school specializing in Native Hawaiian students, and also own tons of lands near UH and other places), Office of Hawaiian Affairs and Department of Hawaiian Homelands

I also noted the Japanese owned tons of land too, though I forgot to mention the notorious Gensiro Kawamoto. I mentioned the Japanese owned tons of stuff in Hawaii back in the 1980s, back eventually owned less due to the declining Japanese economy in 1990.  (anyone in Hawaii in those 2 decades will remember TONS of newspaper editorials about that issue)

Then the Asian-American's  Latina friend (who is also NOT from Hawaii, so she can't speak for me) claimed that "white privilege" is alienating "locals" from Ala Moana and Waikiki, which made me laugh, because their business model is SO VERY REVOLVED around Japanese tourists! You try getting a job there without speaking Japanese, good luck with that!

(that same Latina woman, who I never met in real life, also like to accuse men who disagree with her of "mansplaining". The funny part - when she mentions that "woman get stigmatize for farting in front of their family", I told her straight up - when I was growing up, my dad would get mad if me and my brothers didn't leave the room before farting. So whose gender'splaining now?)

The Asian-American woman also claimed "white privilege" in Hawaii because the military owned lot of land in Hawaii. The European-American woman pointed out correctly that doesn't count because military members can be of any race

(in fact, Collin Powell first claim to fame was being the HIGHEST RANKING PERSON in the military back in the early 90's - the Gulf War era. Yes, even the most racist white military member had to salute a Jamaican-American guy and kiss his rear).  I also pointed out that some of European-American veterans are living as homeless in Hawaii. I guess they didn't get their benefits of "white privilege"

The same Asian-American 'splained to the European-American woman that many ethnic minorities live in poverty, NEVERMIND that the same European-American woman also struggled with poverty, struggled in her college years (without the benefit of minority scholarships). Also ironic it was the Asian-American woman who had the PRIVILEGE of growing up in a stable family, whereas the European-American woman grew up in an abusive home!  (in other words, it's the Asian-American woman who has to check her privilege)  Let's not forget, family structure has higher correlation with poverty than race!

It was also ironic that the Asian-American woman claiming that so many nonwhites are poor, when many of her race living in Hawaii's middle class suburbs (ie Mililani, Pearl City, Moanalua, Makiki, Manoa, Kaneohe, East Honolulu), and the irony is that the one school with sizable low-income East Asian population happens to be my alma mater:(McKinley), giving me more experience being around low-income East Asians than most local East Asians who live in the suburbs!

And talking about McKinley High School, I acknowledged the controversial statue, but statues don't really do anything but exist. Most of the school's teachers (as well as the students) are of Asian ancestry, and that whatever racial tensions exist there is due to rivalries between Asian & Pacific Island groups.

And talking about McKinley, he only has a school and a statue in Hawaii. King Kamehameha (who used violence to conquer his rival's territory to take over all of Hawaii) not only has a statue and a school named after him, but also a shopping center, a long highway, and a holiday.

I also noted the state's power structure included the police (plenty of Native Hawaiians including the recently "retired" chief) and the state legislature (mostly Asians).

Add to that, I never lived under a white governor until I became an adult. George Ariyoshi, John Waihee and Ben Cayetano were the governors I grew up under.

And of course, our Congressional representatives since statehood included Japanese (Dan Inouye, Pasty Takemoto Mink, Mazie Hirono, Coleen Hanabusa) and a Native Hawaiian-Chinese (Daniel Akaka)

So it was the Asian-American woman that was disrespecting the nonwhites who rose to power.

That's without even mentioning this half-African guy who was born in Hawaii (sorry Kenya), went to Punahou  (so-called "haole school") and became US president!

Talking about Punahou, I also mentioned that the school, as well as Kaiser and Kalaheo, are pretty much the only high schools were "white privilege" comes even close to existing on the social hierarchy, but even then, many of those "white kids" have nonwhite friends there.  Niu Valley Middle School (which mostly feeds into Kaiser though some also go to  Kalani) was where I was working at, and even the white jocks and white skaters were treating their Asian & Hawaiian peers like family! If you got picked on there, it's usually because you're seen as a "nerd", "wuss", "kiss ass" or "gay", and the only ethnic taunting I heard was a Native Hawaiian boy teasing a Tongan girl.

AS for schools, as I mentioned earlier, the Asians (but especially the Japanese) are the majority of teachers and administrators.  Yes, in Hawaii, a student's formative years are spent being under the control of Asian-Americans.  You get a scolding, you get an F, you get it mostly from an Asian-American here! You get sent to the principal's office, it's usually an Asian-American you have to deal with! Imagine growing up like that if you're not of Asian ancestry. That's my reality growing up!  Yes, I work in the school system and if I'm in the class, you'll finally get a non-Asian getting your case! As for other authority figures on campus, the campus security tend to be mostly Polynesian (that's who going to be yelling at you if try to cut class).

I had to tell that Asian-American woman all this because she claim "people of color can't be racist because racism is about power, and white people have all the power in Hawaii", which is so stupid, as you can tell by reading everything I wrote!

And I told that Asian-American woman that her own racial group's position in Hawaii is so similar to the Jews & Irish in the continental US. Yeah, the Jews & Irish faced lot of discrimination in their early years in the USA but they are a MAJOR PART OF THE ESTABLISHMENT NOW! The same is true for Asian-Americans in Hawaii. This isn't the 1940s!

Also, we come to find out that the European-American woman lived in Hawaii than that Asian-American woman!
So yeah, I told that Asian-American woman that "(the European-American woman) has more knowledge of Hawaii's social environment than you!"

Since then, she kept her 'splaining (and her lectures about "whitesplaining") to herself!

Don't think being a "person of color" is going to protect you from being called out for BS! You can't play the guilt trip games on me!
