rail stations need public restrooms

Later this month, the long-awaited rail system on Oahu will finally be open to the public.

For now, it will only operate from Kapolei to the soon-to-be-demolished Aloha Stadium. The rest of the rail route is still years away from operation.

For all the talk of delays and problems with constructing the rail, it was only THIS MONTH when it was publically revealed that there will be no public restrooms at the rail stations.

So something that was built to serve, hundreds, maybe thousands at a time is not going to have public restrooms?

That's not right!

Here's what I wrote to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

https://www.staradvertiser.com/2023/06/19/editorial/letters/letter-rail-stations-should-have-public-restrooms/

That the new rail stations are not going to have public restrooms is planned negligence. This will hurt those with various disabilities, including overactive bladder, digestive disorders, pregnancy, mobility impairments and more. Not only that, those who have just finished eating, or who are using the rail after a long commute on the bus, also will be negatively affected.

The city Department of Transportation Services is defending the lack of public restrooms by claiming other metro rail stations don’t have public restrooms either.

Sorry, that’s not good enough. A goal for any public service shouldn’t be to be just like everyone else, but to provide services beyond what everyone else is providing. We should be the shining example to the world, not just another example of negligence.

Being that letters to the editors have word-limits, but my blog doesn't, I want to add a few more things here.

The city & county's  Department of Transportation Services also claim that it will be too expensive to maintain the restroom and provide security. There are concerns about vandalism, drug use, and crime in the restrooms.

If that's the case, then we should pay for the maintenance and security of the restrooms.

We're already paying tons of money to build and maintain the rail, we might as well pay for the restrooms there too.

It's the right thing to do!

-------

And for those who claim "bus stops don't have public restrooms, why should the rail stations?"  ....................

bus stops tend to have a lot fewer people waiting than rail stations

Let's put it this way: little shops usually don't have public restrooms, but malls definitely do!

The more people you serve, the more you need public restrooms.

That's common sense!

Super Geeks to the rescue

I got my home computer back in 2015.

Earlier this month, this computer kept freezing.

I could be in the middle of doing something, and the computer just freezes.

And the worst are situations like "I plan to be off the computer at 10pm, but at 9:15, the computer freezes". Now, everything gets delayed!

Certain websites are slow. And worst was when the computer freezes while using Microsoft Word, the ultimate app for writing documents. It got to the point where I had to use Google Docs just write a cover letter.

Buying a new computer is expensive.

And I'm very picky with what I want with a computer.

I want a computer that has a DVD drive, USB drive, SD card drive, plus speakers, big monitor, keyboard, mouse and more.

I tried to finding a computer like that on the HP website. You can order a computer in which you can add the features you want.

The problem is the cost.

But yet, my computer kept freezing.

It was time to consider getting it repaired.

There is a well-known computer repair business near my home.

That computer repair business is called Super Geeks.

I first looked up Yelp to find out what other customers experienced. It was overwhelmingly positive.

I contacted Super Geeks via Yelp, explained my situation and asked for a quote.

While it was still costly, it was still cheaper than buying a new computer.

After thinking it through overnight, I decided to give Super Geeks a chance to work their magic.

One of the Super Geeks came by my home to pick up my computer and I explained the situation.

Couple of days later, they came back and set up my repaired computer, explained what they did, and I tested my computer to make it sure it is now working.

Super Geeks did the following

  • replaced the old hard drive to a new SSD (solid state drive)
  • replaced the CMOS battery
  • add an additional 4GB of memory
  • cleaned out malware
  • made sure all the apps from the old hard drive has transferred to my new  SSD hard drive

My computer hasn't freezed since I got my computer back.

Though some websites are still slow, though that's most likely more on their end than my computer itself.

And the best part was the customer service. They were very polite, allowed me to explain my situation, and they were able to explain their tech expertise in a way I could understand.

And they don't just say "here's your computer back, bye", they're willing to set up your computer in your home, allow you to test your computer right in front of them, and they will answer your questions on the spot.

I'm definitely contacting them again if my computer got issues.

If you need their help, go to this link

Super Geeks doesn't repair smartphones, but I will endorse TechArmour for that.

I remember back in 2020 and in 2022, my smartphone battery was swollen and TechArmour was able to take care of the situation.

Because my smartphone is a BlackBerry, I had to order a replacement battery online, but Tech Armour will insert the battery for you. They also inserted a replacement back cover for me sometime last year.

And just like Super Geeks, the folks at Tech Armor great at listening to my concerns and great at explaining how they'll fix the situation.
