Abortion Reduces Crime

Abortion Reduces Crime

How?

Back in 1999, Mr. Levitt was trying to figure out why crime rates had fallen so dramatically in the previous decade. He was struck by the fact that crime began falling nationwide just 18 years after the Supreme Court effectively legalized abortion. He was struck harder by the fact that in five states crime began falling three years earlier than it did everywhere else. These were exactly the five states that had legalized abortion three years before Roe v. Wade.

Did crime fall because hundreds of thousands of prospective criminals had been aborted? Once again, the pattern by itself is not conclusive, but once again Mr. Levitt piles pattern on pattern until the evidence overwhelms you. The bottom line? Legalized abortion was the single biggest factor in bringing the crime wave of the 1980s to a screeching halt.

Let's be real about this - people get abortions because they're not mentally prepared to be a good parent of the potential baby growing inside.

And if one isn't mentally prepared to be a parent, chances are, once the baby is born, the baby would more likely 2 be abused. The child will more likely to be in poverty and live in the ghetto. In many cases, the father would ditch mom and the kid - causing the mom to work more than 1 job just to pay the bills. The kid will have a really rough life.

In many cases, the kid would've been better off if born 10 years later, because 10 years later, the mother would be mentally prepared to be a good parent.

In too many cases, kids are born to unprepared parents. In too many cases, those kids don't have the ideal parents and not living in ideal circumstances. In too many cases, those kids are the perfect recruits to violent gangs. In those cases, those kids might've been better off sent to heaven before birth.

Not all kids in those situations end up as violent predators. My oldest brother was born to a single mother. The father ditched the family. Yet, that brother is a college graduate, work at Bank of Hawaii, and has a condo in Hawaii Kai, one of the most luxurious communities in Hawaii.

However, my mom was also lucky to find another man who was willing to care for my oldest brother. In the process, that man had 2 kids with my mom (me being 1 of the 2).

Other mothers aren't so lucky. Other kids aren't so lucky. Too many kids I knew from elementary school dropped out of high school. Some spent time in jail. Some were on drugs the last time I saw them. Some of them, I didn't want to hang out with when I became a teenager because I didn't want to get sucked into their world. Yet, I worry about them now.

This is why I believe in giving out condoms. This is why I believe in selling birth control pills.

While abstinence before marriage is the ideal - in the real world people get into the sexual mood without planning it.

Once the sexual mood jumps in, no amount of conservative correctness (which EVERY person heard a MILLION TIMES while growing up) will stop the sexual mood.

So we ought to live in reality, give people condoms, sell birth control pills, and if the last resort is required, provide legal abortions.

If not, be prepared to be violently robbed by another drug addict born to another unprepared parent.
