one-person dorm rooms
It is about the need for one person-dorms. The copy editor did a screw up in the title by putting "one-man rooms" instead of the preferred "one person rooms". After all, females are dorming too, and some might have the same thought as I. The preference over the words "one-person" over the words "one-man" isn't "political correctness", it's about respect!
Anyways, here's the editorial

UH needs additional one-man rooms

I understand the university and the state of Hawai'i are in financial crisis. But once both reemerge, housing needs to be changed.
We need to build dorms made up of one-person rooms. The main reason why I don't live on campus anymore is because I am tired of sharing a room with another human being.
Some buildings have one-person rooms, but they are very limited and very hard to get. Some students try to become resident advisers just to get the one-person room -- which I tried without success.
If we had more one-person rooms, there would be more people living on campus. I know I would still be there.
I liked living on campus, occasionally chatting with neighbors and the front desk folks. The lack of privacy that is inevitable in two-person rooms drove me insane.
Some will say that sharing a room with another person is a good way to get to know people. I disagree.
If someone wanted to meet people, they could just join a campus club that interested them -- like I did -- or just hang out in the lounge or on the balcony -- which I did -- or work at the front desk of the dorm buildings -- which I also did.
But sharing a room forces people into paranoid about putting up with roommates who don't share the same values or habits.
Sharing a room forces people to be paranoid about not doing certain private things just to avoid stupid and intrusive questions.
Sharing a room forces people to hide parts of themselves to avoid conflict. Being in that situation isn't a healthy way of meeting people.
Some say that having one-person rooms will cause some to be reclusive and miss out on socializing.
So what? Let' em! That's their lives, not yours! If someone regrets not socializing enough in college, that's their problem, not yours!
But no one should be put into a situation of 1) long commutes; 2) staying home with family members one doesn't get along with; or 3) give up all privacy to live in the dorms just to avoid a time-wasting commute!

The dilemma: mountain lion near a school
Recently, in Palo Alto, California, a mountain lion was in a tree near a school. It was close to the time the kids were about to leave the school. If nothing was done, the mountain lion could've attacked, and traumatizing others.
So the cops shot the mountain lion before it could attack. The politically correct fanatics went apeshit!
A few quotes from Thomas Sowell on this!
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/thomassowell/ts20040527.shtml
Yes, the mountain lion was sitting peacefully. That is what cats do before they pounce -- usually very swiftly.
Bet the animal rights fanatics dont want you to think about that.
Second-guessers always have easy alternatives. One protester against "the murdering of such a beautiful creature" said that it "easily could have been removed from the premises and relocated" .........The protester offered no helpful hints on how you "easily" remove a mountain lion from a tree -- and certainly did not volunteer to demonstrate how to do it in person the next time the police find a mountain lion up a tree in a residential neighborhood.
And what about using tranquilizers instead
What if the police had shot a tranquilizer gun at the adult mountain lion in the tree and missed? Would they have had a chance to get off a second shot at a swiftly moving target before he pounced on one of the hundreds of children that were soon to be leaving school near him?
but not everyone was pissed at the cops for this
Some Palo Alto parents of small children living near where the mountain lion was killed said that the police did the right thing. There are still some pockets of sanity, even in Palo Alto.
Lucky I live in Hawaii, where there's no mountain lions around.

As you know by now, Fantasia won the American Idol.
That means all you race card addicts who blame racism for LaToya's ouster will have to shut up now.
But the race cards most likely will never stop even though African Americans have won 2 out of the 3 American Idol contests.
As for the show itself, I was considering entering until I found out how their system works. If you win, you will have to sign a contract in which the record company controls all your actions and controls all your recordings. Screw dat! I rather make my own records where I can say and do whatever!

Teenage Pregnancy
When will people get over the fact that teenagers will NEVER be asexual? People act as if a teenager having a baby is equivalent to an act of terror! Those people should get a grip.
Here is an example of that hysteria appearing as a letter to the Honolulu Advertiser.

Picture of pregnant teenager disconcerting
While I was reading Sunday's "I'm Pregnant" article, I was taken aback by a picture of one of the mothers-to-be — a 17-year-old teenager. What could possibly be gained by having a 17-year-old as one of the subjects?
In general, at age 17, a student should be thinking of furthering her education, earning an income and gaining more wisdom and maturity about dealing with the complexities of life.
As a society, we certainly don't encourage teens to get pregnant. The Advertiser should have looked at the message it is sending by having a picture of a pregnant teenager.
Randall Fong
Honolulu
OK, let's dissect Fong's words
What could possibly be gained by having a 17-year-old as one of the subjects?
MY RESPONSE: Uh, maybe the media is telling like it is! How dare they not pretend that teenagers dont get pregnant!
In general, at age 17, a student should be thinking of furthering her education, earning an income and gaining more wisdom and maturity about dealing with the complexities of life.
MY RESPONSE: Here we go again, acting as if someone getting pregnant at 17 means that one will never go to college! Nonsense! At UH, I see many mothers there. So they started college later than the average person! So what? It's better than nothing! Just because one is not at college at 18, that doesn't mean one will never attend college before the age of 60. To each their own!
As a society, we certainly don't encourage teens to get pregnant. The Advertiser should have looked at the message it is sending by having a picture of a pregnant teenager.
MY RESPONSE: This is what I don't get about conservatives! On one hand, they whine and bitch about abortion! But on the other hand, if a teenage girl chooses NOT to have an abortion, the conservatives still demonize that teenage girl! And they even have to nerve to demand the media act as if teenagers don't have sex and get pregnant!

It's been a while since I posted something here!
Anyways, a week of summer vacation has passed. I am in the process of cleaning out the junk in my apartment. That includes cutting out newspaper articles (my hobby) so that the rest of the paper goes into the trash! Later, it's vaccuum, scrub floors, etc.
Later, I'll work on my strategy of entering the music biz. That includes practice my rap songs, writing new songs, recording demos, and figuring out who to send demos to!
If anyone has any beat-making machines, email me at madtiger99@yahoo.com! If anyone wants to start a rap group, contact me too, as long as you're not a drug addict, alcoholic, racist, communist, fascist, public road racer (private road racers are OK with me) or anyone else who starts shit with others for no good reason.

Hawaii - Wrong on Crime
Hawaii is one of those states that is excessively harsh on non-violent crimes, and excessively soft on violent crimes.
It is a state that doesn't allow civilians to carry concealed weapons, even those without a criminal record. It is a state that considers any touching between a stripper and a customer "prostitution" and therefore has raided strip bars on that premise. It is a state that wastes time raiding marijuana farms and underground gambling casinos.
Yet, yesterday, a Hawaiian racist (Manuel Kupahu) who brutally assaulted a white man at Waimanalo Beach Park was sentenced to a year in jail. All that white man did was tell Kupahu to stop abusing his dog. Kupahu yelled "I'm going to kill that fuckin haole", then came with 2 other guys and brutally beat the white man, breaking his ribs. An offense like that ought to be at least 20 years minimum! A year in jail for a brutal beating like that is a slap on the wrist.
For more info on that, see
http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/May/13/ln/ln12a.html
==========================
Also, in court yesterday, Chris Aki, the 21 yr. old ice addict who killed an 11 year old girl Kahealani Idreginal with a lead pipe. Aki was convicted for manslaughter instead of murder. A manslaughter conviction comes with a maximum of 20 years.
Aki didn't commit manslaughter, he's a murderer! He lied in court. First he confessed to police that commited murder. Then in court, he said he saw Kahealani's uncle killing her with a 40 lb. rock. The uncle refused to testify! However, a coroner said that Kahealani's autopsy showed that the type of beating she received looks more like a beating from a lead pipe instead of a 40 lb. rock! Also, Kahealani's blood was found in Aki's car! Busted!
For more info on that, see
http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/May/13/ln/ln05a.html
For Kahealani Indrigenal's mother's reaction to all this see
http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/May/13/ln/ln03a.html
And the people of Puuwai Momi (the community where Kahealani lived) are pissed off at the verdict for being too soft on Chris Aki.
see
http://starbulletin.com/2004/05/13/news/index2.html
Aki deserves a minimum of life in prison with no parole! Though I wouldn't mind seeing him executed!

Women and Torture
We've all heard this Radical Feminist bullcrap that men are all pigs and women are always innocent victims.
The photos from the US controlled prison in Iraq proves that women can be just as sadistic and cruel as the men.
Yet people are so shocked by that?
Here is Cathy Young setting it straight
http://www.reason.com/cy/cy051104.shtml
Ludicrously, a few conservatives—the smirking provocateur Ann Coulter and the usually sensible Linda Chavez—have used this as an argument against women in the military. A more common response, from left and right, has been hand-wringing over the fact that women could do such things—either because women themselves have been victims of sexual violence or because women should be inherently better than that. But there is little basis for such expectations. Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany had their share of female torturers.
When given power over others, some human beings (including women) will abuse that power in sickening ways. This is a fact of life.
It's an obvious fact I learned from experience in school. Yet people actually forget that and later be shocked by women doing cruel things? The whole idea that women are all weak is bullshit anyways. Some women are strong and dangerous! Just visit a ghetto school! Girls there fight all the time! And I'm sure even in preppy private schools, some girls are bitchy too, just not as violent as the ghetto gangsta girls!
Cruelty and Viciousness isn't a Gender Trait! And I can't believe Adults Still Haven't gotten that Message!
